Only Borrowed Time
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8
Life can be hectic. A merry-go-round we just ride and ride. It gives us headaches as we’re hurled forward each day at blinding speed. Some days we pause to think: what are we doing with our lives. Here are some words from the James Morrison song “One Life”:
If I knew yesterday what I know today, where would I be tomorrow? I won’t let my soul slide away. I’d do whatever it takes Cause this time’s only borrowed. I got one life, one life, one life. And I’m gonna live it. I got one life, one life, one life. And I’m gonna live it right. He reminds us our souls can “slide away.” We may not even notice. But, he says that’s not going to happen to him. He has one life and he’s gonna “live it right.”That’s what Jesus was saying to some people in our Bible verse today. He was saying if you follow him your soul won’t “slide away.” He’ll point out the way. He’s reminding them we only have one life and he wants to help them “live it right.”
With the frantic pace of life these days it’s sometimes difficult to see the big picture. Today…stop…take a minute…to think…where are you headed? You only have one life to live. How are you going to make it count? How are you going to live it right?
