Go Team Go!

When I was in high school I played football. I was an offensive guard. What does an offensive guard do? Block. That’s about it. Block. It was a lot of pushing, shoving, grunting, and, if I were successful, moving hugh defensive linemen on the other team. Believe me when I say there was no glory in it. Oh, no. The glory was for the quarterbacks, the running backs, and the receivers! They’re the ones who scored the touchdowns! BUT…without me and the other linemen, they wouldn’t have been scoring. Ours was not glorious work, but it was necessary to the team. Coach Brown always said: “Do your job so others can do theirs. That’s called teamwork.”

The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12

The church is into teamwork. In fact, the church is a team. It’s compared in the Bible to a human body, and every part is needed for the body to function at 100%. If the body lacks an eye, it couldn’t see as well. If the body has just one huge ear, how would it smell? If even just the big toe is missing, there would be problems with balance. Every part is necessary. The church is called the body of Christ. Each person in the church is a part of the body. Some parts may seem more important than others, but all parts are needed for the church to function. It’s a team. No touchdowns can be scored if each person doesn’t do his or her job.

I loved playing football. I took pride in opening the holes for the running backs to slide through and score. I enjoyed being part of the team. Would you like to be part of a team? A team where your part would be needed? Check out the church.
