Okay. Seriously. Have you ever lived during a hotter summer?!! Only if you went on an extended vacation in the Sahara Desert. I’ve drunk more water this summer than I’ve drunk in the previous 5 summers! Everywhere I go it seems like I have a water bottle with me. Have you gone into a restaurant recently where the waitress doesn’t bring you water unless you ask for it? Water is a more precious commodity this summer. Wow. Can you believe water is so precious, some cities are not allowing watering your lawn or washing your car.
Water is precious. We need water to live. How long can you live without water? A person can survive only three to five days without water. (Do not try this at home!) Once the body is deprived of fluids the cells and organs in the body begin to deteriorate. The presence of water in the body could mean the difference between life and death.
Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” John 4
Jesus refers to himself as the living water. He is the spiritual water you need in your life to make it through the bad times. What happens if you don’t have it? You start to shut down. You know what that feels like. When you just don’t want to go on. You’re just…done with it.
The living water is free and plentiful. It’s a hot world. Look to Jesus for the refreshing water you’ll need. Keep yourself spiritually hydrated!
Today is the 4th of July! A day off! The corn knee-high! Summertime hot! Cook-outs! Family and friends! Watermelon! Fireworks!
This holiday came about in celebration of our country’s independence. Our forefathers wanted to dump taxation without representation. And, they did! They wanted freedom. To be separate from Britain. Independence is good. It’s a great feeling being independent in your life. Free from outside control. Able to do what you want. Being free! That’s one of our greatest values as Americans.
For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 17
Connecting yourself to God increases your freedom. How can that possibly be? Well…God is a good counselor. By attaching yourself to him, you are free to live life. He’ll guide you, he’ll get you to the places you need to get to. There’ll be no more: Is this right or wrong? Am I supposed to do this? And trying to make the decision yourself. You can rely on God to point you in the right direction through the Bible and through prayer and through your church community.
But freedom comes with a cost. An old song lyric says: “Find the cost of freedom buried in the ground.” Our countrymen pay for our freedom with their lives. The freedom God offers you was also paid for. With the death of Jesus. That’s what makes it so valuable.
We live in a country where we have freedom. Have you thought about living your life with the freedom God offers you? Free to you…already paid for by Jesus.
Happy Independence Day from G3 and enjoy these fireworks… http://youtu.be/UzL4L_FpLvE (awesome on full screen!)
