The Summer of ’12 was the summer of superheroes: Batman in “The Dark Knight Rises,” Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America, and Thor in “The Avengers,” Peter Parker in “The Amazing Spiderman.” Each of these characters looked “bulked up” for their latest comeback.
In a study at the University of Buffalo participants were asked to rate how much they liked and/or were familiar with Batman or Spiderman. Then they were shown a photo of either a scrawny or buff-looking Batman/Spiderman and asked to rate their mood, self-esteem, and body esteem.
Participants who had a strong bond with the superheroes and were shown the muscular pictures recorded higher body esteem. When given a test to access physical strength, this group actually registered more strength!!!
Bonding with a superhero can make you stronger!!!
I think there’s validity to this study. Media figures do have psychological effects on people. People form real bonds with them. And, if this is true, aren’t you wondering what bonding with Jesus could do for you?!! Yeah! Bonding with Jesus!
A superhero possesses extraordinary or superhuman powers dedicated to protecting the public. Oh yeah! I’m seeing Jesus as a superhero. Aren’t healing people, raising a few from the dead, and coming back to life superhuman powers? Jesus is dedicated to rescuing anyone who is willing from a life of dread and offers an afterlife. Oh yeah! Bonding with Jesus! Build your self-esteem! Find help!
You may be way into Batman and Spiderman and Ironman. That’s great! Do so. But, think about bonding with another superhero who can help change your life…Jesus.
(Jesus speaking) If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it. Matthew 10
