Change: The Only Constant in Life

On the website Lifehack there’s an entry titled “10 Sentences That Can Change Your Life.” Here they are…with an 11th added.

1. People aren’t against you; they are for themselves.

2. Climb mountains not so the world can see you, but so you can see the world.

3. You learn more from failure than from success; don’t let failure stop you.

4. The most dangerous risk of all—the risk of spending your life not doing what you want on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later.

5. Go where you’re celebrated, not where you’re tolerated.

6. The person that you will spend the most time with in your life is yourself, so you better try to make yourself as interesting as possible.

7. If you accept your limitations, you go beyond them.

8. People often say that motivation doesn’t last, but then, neither does bathing…that’s why we recommend it daily.

9. Everyone you meet is afraid of something, loves something, and has lost something.

10. Comfort is the enemy of achievement.

And #11 is the most important of all…

God loved you so much he sent his only son to die for you so he might give you everlasting life…and so much more.

For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3

A Piece of the Peace

Have you ever been in a situation you just hated? Detested? Everyday you get up and it’s the same and every night when you put your head on the pillow…it’s the same. You can’t seem to find a way to happiness again. To those sunny times.

When you think about it, you only have about three choices:

1. You can sulk.

2. You can change your situation.

3. You can change your attitude.

Maybe you’ve tried the first one. I have, and it never gets you anywhere. If things are really bad, you may go to the second choice. It might be drastic, but you may need drastic. The third choice is an inside change…changing how you think and feel.

This may be where you can use God’s help. Consider fusing your life with the life God offers. He promises you a special kind of peace in your life. One that’s beyond your human understanding. Doesn’t that sound like the change of attitude you crave in one of those horrid situations? Oh, and he keeps his promises.

God. Have you ever considered him? You can check him out for yourself in the Bible.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4

No Fear of Tomorrow

Three years ago a waiter at a TGI Friday’s was clearing a table and found this napkin with these words written on it.

Are you, like me, wondering if the person who wrote this was trying to convince himself or herself? If they said it and wrote it enough, it would be true? Perhaps, it was meant as an encouragement for the next person who sat down. “I’m not afraid of tomorrow, you shouldn’t be either.”

It’s also possible this was a person connected to God, and, this is just a statement of faith.

Are you afraid of tomorrow?

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11

The Annoying

You know that annoying friend? Or, your annoying co-worker? The one who gets on every single one of your nerves? The one who drives you absolutely to the limit? Yep. Everybody has one.

I saw a list the other day of the most annoying tv characters. Among them were: Kimmy Gibbler from “Full House,” Screech from “Saved By the Bell,” Arnold Horshack from “Welcome Back, Kotter,” April Kepner from “Grey’s Anatomy,” and Georgina Sparks from “Gossip Girl.” Do any of those ring a bell with you? I love April this year on “Grey’s,” but she has always been annoying!

It’s difficult to tolerate the behavior of some people. But, God expects us to do just that. He says over and over that we need to get along with everyone; we don’t have to like everyone, or be best friends with them. However, we do need to get along.

So…who’s the annoying person that comes to your mind? Will you be able to be tolerant today? Give it a try.

Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. Romans 12

There! Physically ready for the day!

But, what about spiritually? Are you spiritually ready for the day?

What’s your daily spiritual workout? Reading the Bible? Praying? Thinking about God? Listening to some spiritually thought-provoking music?

If you don’t stay in shape, you’ll get weaker…physically…and spiritually.

But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4

What Does LOVE Mean?

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year olds: “What does love mean?” (from an article by Ladan Lashkari).  Here are some of the answers:

1. “When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.”   Rebecca – age 8

2. “When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.”   Billy – age 4

3. “Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.”   Bobby – age 7

4. “If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.”   Nikka – age 6

5. “Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.”   Chris – age 7

6. And the final one…

Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.

Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, “Nothing, I just helped him cry.”

No one loves you more than God who sent his own son into the world as a sacrifice for you.

For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3

Did You Understand What I Said?!

There are those days when you think you hear the one job the boss has for you to do. Did you hear it right? Yep. So, you don’t ask for clarification, you just do what you heard. BUT…you didn’t hear it right!

It’s difficult listening to what someone says to you and making sure you totally understand exactly what was said. Communication is not easy. It’s not just speaking and listening.

That’s why in the Bible, God tells you he loves you in so many ways. He says it. He demonstrates it. He tells you a story of how he does it. And, most importantly, he sent Jesus, just to make sure you fully and completely understood.

Don’t listen to others tell you what they think God is telling you. That’s second-hand information. Check it out for yourself. Find a Bible…or watch it on the History Channel!

For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3
