Going Turbo

Good grief. Don’t you sometimes think the pace of our society is turbo? It can get insane! It’s enough that you have to work five days a week, but some weeks you have to work more. Yes, you’re thankful for your job, but there is so much else to do. Getting the kids to school and school events. The grocery. Pick up medicine at CVS. Can you work in a little special time for the family? And, there’s the everyday stuff like…eating, sleeping, yeah! Those emergencies…like the air conditioning breaking down. STOP…LET ME GET OFF THIS RUNAWAY TRAIN!!!

What you need is a day off! Then you, too, could be relaxed (and bored) with Supergirl and Batgirl, sitting on that park bench. Boring can be relaxing!

(Jesus speaking) My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10

Jesus doesn’t want you to run around “like a chicken with its head cut off.” A rich and satisfying life is a life you can enjoy. Sure, you work and have goals and accomplish them, but you also have time for your family, your friends…and yourself. Connect with Jesus and see the path your life could take.

You know, maybe today is the day to start planning a day off. At least, a time to do something you find relaxing. Even if it’s hanging out with Supergirl and Batgirl. (On second thought, if you’re a guy with a significant female other, maybe you should think of something else.)

Chill Out, Hang Loose

What’s your happiness based on? Getting a little more than you have? That’s sort of the way our society is built, isn’t it? Happiness is a better job, a slightly higher paycheck, a little more education, a nicer car. But it seems like you’re on a treadmill and every time you think you might rest a little, there’s an increase in speed or up goes the incline a bit. Just when you think you’re happy, you’re seduced into thinking you need a touch more. Yet, you never quite make it.

Be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13

A different way to think of happiness might be to see it as simply being content with what you have and where you are. And…that is exactly what God promotes: Being content with what you have. Now, that doesn’t mean you don’t try to get a better job, or make more money, or get a better car. But, what it does mean is your happiness is not based on whether or not you achieve those goals. It’s a different way of looking at life. Less stressful. More relaxed. More pleasant. In addition, God says he’s going to stick with you, stand beside you.

Ease up today. De-stress. Take it easy. Choose to see happiness as being satisfied with what you have. Ahhh, there…put your feet up and breathe a little easier.
