You know, of course, that every generation is defined by some tv show they watched. Maybe you are from the “Mash” generation. Or, perhaps, the “Seinfeld” generation.
Well, today, this clip is for the “Friends” generation: Jennifer Aniston on “The Ellen Show”
Have a great weekend!
Were you watching after the Olympics one night when NBC put on a preview of “Go On,” an upcoming network show starring Chandler Bing…errr…I mean…Matthew Perry? Perry’s a sportswriter who goes a little wacko and is required to join a therapy group to keep his job. Very funny! And I like Chandler…I mean Matthew.
We love previews, don’t we. Some movie trailers are almost as famous as the movie itself. Hollywood puts lots and lots of money into them. They work! They show us what the movie is going to be about so we can gauge if we want to see it.
There’s a preview coming up this Sunday, August 26. It’s a preview of the G3 church. How can someone do what Austin Anderson did? Think about that. We’d all like to say we would act like he did, but I honestly don’t know what I’d do in a situation like that. He must have had a fierce love for his friend Hannah. Nothing indicated they were dating, just good friends. Yet, he spent the final moments of his life saving hers. That’s the kind of friend you want to have. I don’t think he even thought about it. He acted spontaneously. This courageous young man, who had already survived two tours in Iraq, was willing to give his life for his friend.
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 1 John 3
This is the love of Jesus. A spontaneous, unconditional love. It’s almost impossible to understand. What kind of love is it that is so great that a person is willing to give his life for another? Yet, this is what Jesus did. This love is spontaneous. It’s like when you love your spouse or child or parent so much that when you act in love, you don’t think about it, you simply act. How many moms and dads have you heard say they would give their lives to save their children? They would do so without considering what might happen to them. It’s that kind of love. We throw the word love around without thought for its meaning. But this spontaneous, sacrificial love…isn’t that the kind of love you’re looking for?
Today. Consider looking to one who willingly gave his life for you. His love is true, freely given, spontaneous.
