Understanding the Lyrics

Christopher Francis Ocean, better known by his stage name Frank Ocean, is a 25 year old American singer/songwriter from New Orleans. Early in his career he wrote songs for Brandy, Justin Bieber, and John Legend, to name a few. Recently, he’s making more of a name for himself as a performer. I don’t know if I really like his music or not, but there’s one thing he said which I find very interesting:

“When you’re happy, you enjoy the music. But, when you’re sad, you understand the lyrics.”

Man, that speaks to me, how about you? When life is going well, you’re dancing, your feet don’t even touch the floor. You’re hearing the music. Smiling, laughing…life is good. But then. When your life hits the skids…. That’s when you begin thinking, having that internal dialogue. What went wrong? What’s happening? And, now, you’re hearing and understanding those lyrics.

You can’t keep your life from being sad sometimes. But, maybe, you can control some of the lyrics to your song. Make God’s words some of your lyrics. Some people memorize verses in the Bible. You know why? So when bad things happen, those words come to their mind. That helps them in making right decisions and handling adversity. The right lyrics. God’s words. There are times when hearing the right thing can move you in the right direction.

Life’s a breeze, dance, live, enjoy! But for those times when your life hits the wall, have some lyrics that will get you through the rough patch. Read the words of God. They’re powerful.
