The Annoying

You know that annoying friend? Or, your annoying co-worker? The one who gets on every single one of your nerves? The one who drives you absolutely to the limit? Yep. Everybody has one.

I saw a list the other day of the most annoying tv characters. Among them were: Kimmy Gibbler from “Full House,” Screech from “Saved By the Bell,” Arnold Horshack from “Welcome Back, Kotter,” April Kepner from “Grey’s Anatomy,” and Georgina Sparks from “Gossip Girl.” Do any of those ring a bell with you? I love April this year on “Grey’s,” but she has always been annoying!

It’s difficult to tolerate the behavior of some people. But, God expects us to do just that. He says over and over that we need to get along with everyone; we don’t have to like everyone, or be best friends with them. However, we do need to get along.

So…who’s the annoying person that comes to your mind? Will you be able to be tolerant today? Give it a try.

Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. Romans 12

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, …

There! Physically ready for the day!

But, what about spiritually? Are you spiritually ready for the day?

What’s your daily spiritual workout? Reading the Bible? Praying? Thinking about God? Listening to some spiritually thought-provoking music?

If you don’t stay in shape, you’ll get weaker…physically…and spiritually.

But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4

What Does LOVE Mean?

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year olds: “What does love mean?” (from an article by Ladan Lashkari).  Here are some of the answers:

1. “When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.”   Rebecca – age 8

2. “When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.”   Billy – age 4

3. “Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.”   Bobby – age 7

4. “If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.”   Nikka – age 6

5. “Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.”   Chris – age 7

6. And the final one…

Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.

Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, “Nothing, I just helped him cry.”

No one loves you more than God who sent his own son into the world as a sacrifice for you.

For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3

It’s gonna be a great Friday!

I heard Si Robertson say on “Duck Dynasty”: “Hey, I’m like Aretha Franklin, I don’t get no R-S-P-E-C-T around here!”

A lot of people don’t get any respect these days. McDonald’s is thinking about changing the way they take orders at their restaurants. Why? Because their own workers are so rude to customers. They don’t esteem the customers.

You know, if Si Robertson weren’t as famous as he is, being on “Duck Dynasty,” and you saw him at your local gas station, you might not hold him in such high regard. That’s the way this world rolls.

That’s not the way it is with God. The Bible says God respects all. Paul, a great Christian teacher, said you should be humble, not try to impress others, and think of others as better than yourself. I’m thinking we do need to give Uncle Si a little respect (whether he can spell the word correctly or not).

Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Romans 12

There are those days when you think you hear the one job the boss has for you to do. Did you hear it right? Yep. So, you don’t ask for clarification, you just do what you heard. BUT…you didn’t hear it right!

It’s difficult listening to what someone says to you and making sure you totally understand exactly what was said. Communication is not easy. It’s not just speaking and listening.

That’s why in the Bible, God tells you he loves you in so many ways. He says it. He demonstrates it. He tells you a story of how he does it. And, most importantly, he sent Jesus, just to make sure you fully and completely understood.

Don’t listen to others tell you what they think God is telling you. That’s second-hand information. Check it out for yourself. Find a Bible…or watch it on the History Channel!

For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3

I recently read a news story about a man who lost his son. His son and daughter were walking in a park one evening when they were accosted by a man who intended to rape the girl. The boy jumped in front of his sister and refused to move. The rapist shot him twice and ran off without assaulting the girl. The boy died within minutes.

The father said he was thinking he could never forgive that man who murdered his son…but then…his 7-year-old daughter said to him: “But, Daddy, didn’t Jesus say we should forgive everyone?” And as the tears fell, he gathered his family in a circle and they prayed, forgiving the young man who had taken their precious family member.

That is amazing to me. I’m not sure I could have done that. I like to think I could have because this I know to be true: Forgiveness doesn’t excuse a person’s behavior. Forgiveness prevents their behavior from destroying your heart.

Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Colossians 3
