Hello Hurricane

We’ve heard a lot in the last few days about Hurricane Isaac. After Katrina the people of New Orleans really didn’t deserve this. It’s only a category 1 hurricane, but can you say ONLY a category 1. A hurricane is a hurricane. Here’s what an eleven-year-old boy said about his family being caught in one of these powerful storms: “The part I thought was the worst was when we heard the windows break. I thought it was the wind but I couldn’t see anything. I was scared.” It’s a harrowing experience fighting to stay alive.

In their song “Hello Hurricane” Switchfoot says:

I’m a fighter fighting for control,

I’m a fighter fighting for my soul.

Everything inside of me surrenders.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re talking about fighting to stay alive in a hurricane or fighting to stay alive in a relationship, it’s difficult and it can be frightening. But that last line in the Switchfoot song…that’s how you fight God’s way. You surrender to him. That may sound strange to you…that to be a fighter, you surrender. That’s how it is with God, though. You surrender all to him…surrender everything… and then he gives you the strength to fight. To be victorious.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor. James 4

Are you in a fight for control? Are you in a fight for your soul? If you need the strength to go on, you know what you can do. Surrender.
